According to Moderna's Dr. Paul Burton, vaccines for cancer, heart, rare, autoimmune and infectious diseases will be available by 2030, thanks to mRNA technology, which has made great strides during the Covid-19 pandemic.

  • By 2030, we will have highly effective vaccines against cancer and heart disease.
  • A personalized cancer vaccine?
  • MRNA could be applied to all kinds of pathological areas.

Dr Paul Burton, medical director of the American pharmaceutical company Moderna gave an interview to the British newspaper Guardian. He makes predictions that can be said to be groundbreaking.

What about? By the end of the decade, we will have highly effective vaccines against cancer and heart disease, reveals Dr. Paul Burton, who explains that new vaccines against cancer, heart disease and other conditions will be based on mRNA technology.

The American pharmaceutical company Moderna was indeed at the forefront of the Covid-19 pandemic thanks to its mRNA (messenger RNA) vaccine and it is now working on specific vaccines against various types of cancer.

He explains that a personalized cancer vaccine will involve taking a tumor biopsy from a patient, sequencing DNA, and then identifying specific mutations present on diseased cells (especially those linked to cancer growth). After which, researchers are able to prepare an mRNA vaccine capable of stimulating immune cells to strike them with extreme precision.

The principle is the same as the anti-Covid vaccine and according to Paul Burton, this mechanism of action would not only target cancer, but would offer advantages in several pathological domains.

He even claims that mRNA can be applied to all kinds of pathological areas; against cancer, infectious diseases, cardiovascular diseases, autoimmune diseases, rare diseases.
